I think we had this in one of the first drafts, but merged the two
vtables to keep it simple. But at that time there weren't your idlc and
pluc compiler in sight. We discarted the cleaner concept of two vtables
in favour of less handwritten code.

I second your proposal.

We to need discourage all usage of static members that disallows
reentrant method calls.
