Annoying ads on the list

Hi,

Just curious if someone can explain how this list gets ads posted to it.
Since you have to subscribe, doesn't that mean that:

A - An actual person had to do the subscribing
B - The moderator can unsubscribe them?

There is a moderator, right?  Someone with the power to remove "Alister
Lowe" (or whomever/whatever he is) and the rest from this list?
