Fonts on gtk 2.0.6

Succeeded at building gtk+-2.0.6 on mingw (far easier to debug issues 
than with cygwin). But text rendering (surprise) doesn't work. Probably 
an interaction issue with freetype2 and pango; does anyone have a 
roadmap of what works?

(The freetype2 is a rebuild from the gnuwin32 project -- they had 
missing symbols that pango really wanted, like FT_Alloc and FT_Free. The 
glib/atk/pango combo are all near-latest versions.)
