Folks -

For the past couple of days I haven't been receiving any emails from gimpwin-dev. Now this afternoon they started back up again. However, it is apparant that I missed a few emails along the way. For example, I never received Bill's email that Rick replied to below. Anyone know what's going on???

In any case, I will try to put together some instructions on how I built the gimp and forward those to the list. The basics are that I merely downloaded Tor's gimp 1.2.4 source distribution and the development (not source) versions of all the related libraries from Tor's links on the gimp-win site, downloaded and installed binary distributions of MinGW and mSys, then built the gimp mostly according to Tor's instructions. He already did all of the hard work. However, there are a few tricks and details that were required which aren't detailed in Tor's instructions on the web site, so I will try to provide more details regarding the exact approach that I used. However, one word of caution: I am no expert at building stuff, so it's entirely possible that what I did may not have been the best approach, and there could even be a few things that I really screwed up. So, I'd definitely appreciate any feedback that everyone would care to offer.

Anyway, enough for now. I'll try to put something together and will post back to the list shortly...

My thoughts are if you have been succesful in building gimp, could
you please share your make file with us poor guys that cant figure
out what the heck is going on? If someone gets a working copy out
of the source, please share and if you could document what you did,
what compiler you used and any special things that had to be done
to get it to build would make you a hero to those of us that have
been trying for ages to get a working build.

Every time I fool with mingw I have fudge around with it for hours,
days and sometimes weeks to get it to make a working executable on
  some ports of things.

Thank you in advance for any who are reading and want to contribute
to the development of gimp! You may never know, maybe some of us
that have had a heck of a time trying to get a build may have some
neat tricks up our sleeves to do something that will knock the
socks off of a product like Photoshop, and then we could share it
  with you :D
