Curve file format specifications

I would like to generate a curve file (from the curve tool) from
another application than GIMP. Unfortunately I cannot find the
specifications for the file format anywhere.

To give you a bit of background, I'm working on several pictures
which show common elements. These elements must all look the same. So
the idea is to use the color picker on various parts and manually
generate a curve to match each picture with the "model".

Unfortunately, the curve tool is a PITA (pain in the a..) to use
precisely. I could use Photoshop, where co-ordinates may be entered
by hand, but this is tedious and eventually The Gimp will not be able
to read Photoshop's curve.

So for the moment I enter my points co-ordinates in Excel, whence I
would like to export them into a Gimp curve file... if I knew how it
was structured. Can anyone help?

Regards,

Francis
