I <think> the problem is that the original poster found that modal
windows under GTK allowed clicking and bringing up the window that
spawned the modal window. If so, then the modal windows from GTK are
not modal at all and are merely normal windows. However, in your reply,
it <seemed> that you were <suggesting> that all modal windows were
dangerous as they could lead to lock-ups - this is not the case. I am
not trying to offend, merely to clarify. As for not using system modal
windows, I (and MS) completely agree. However, I believe the user
merely wants modal windows in GTK to actually be modal.
