Have you tried converting these map images over from their xcf (GIMP) image format to gif., or jpeg., image first, and then printing them?  If not, try that.  Pull you map images up, and then click on save as......, and scroll down to where you find the Gif image, or the Jpeg image format, and click on that, and follow any other directions(prompts) your computer gives you from there.  Once you have done this, then Go to where your computer has stored these new Gif, or Jpeg image Maps, and try printing them one more time.  You should have no further problems. I always use Gimp to print my artwork (only in black and white - never
try color printer) and it seem work very well to me.

In Gimp, the print function only print the active layer of .xcf files.
That mean, if you have 10 layer, the layer u selected (highlighted) is
the layer that Gimp sent to the printer.

In order to print the full artwork, you have to merge all layer and
select that layer then go to print function.

If this is still not working out, let me know.
