Totally untrue. GIMPVS is exactly the same source code (well, perhaps
some minor tweaks to get it to compile with the latest MS compilers)
as the "normal" one, and uses the same toolkit. Making GIMP use "the"
(which?) Microsoft GUI toolkit would be a *major* undertaking, and
more or less require rewriting everything GUI-related in GIMP.

Note that "standard" look and feel is an oxymoron when it comes to
Microsoft software. Ever seen Office 2007? I am not saying the Office
2007 look and feel is bad (I very much like the live preview stuff,
for instance), but it is a completely different "standard" than
earlier Microsoft software.

Emphasis on "tries" here. Feel free to try it, of course (google for
"gimpshop"), but don't bother asking for help in this group about it.
The people behind gimpshop deliberately have chosen to do things their
own (wrong) way avoiding cooperation with GIMP developers so it could
have been done the "right" way (and part of the official sources), so
let them do their own support.

Adjustment layers is a very useful feature in Photoshop (and maybe
other similar apps). It is not present in GIMP 2.4. Whether GIMP 2.4
is built with the GNU toolchain (the normal distribution from
gimp-win.sf.net) or Microsoft's (GIMPVS) does not change this. And
yes, the developers are very well aware that it is a much asked for
feature.
