You may be old enough to be my big brother, but most certainly not my
dad. I spent the summer of '63 setting up computerized circulation for
periodicals at the LASL library and keypunching all the data to generate
routing slips. I taught myself how to program the keypunch machine, and
then I taught the secretaries who would carry the project on when I went
back to school in the fall. :-)

Surely we aren't the only ones here who go way back. My dad is old
enough to go back to the very beginning, but he never touched a computer
until he retired 20 some years ago, because he had a secretary to do
that stuff. When he retired, he took up Ataris and it nearly broke his
heart when he couldn't go any further without switching to Mac or
Windows. Windows won. Now, at the age of 87, he has a Vista-equipped
desktop machine, a Linux machine he never uses, and a laptop. All for
himself. He lives alone, and spends a good part of each day taking
digital stereo pictures of the birds and squirrels outside his kitchen
window (which is equipped with one-way glass) and playing with
Photoshop. He claims it's too much trouble to learn GIMP. It isn't as
easy to pick up new things as it used to be.

There is a whole slew of ElderGeeks around.

Cheers, and I do hope you get that file. It completely baffles me why
those links work for me and not for you. Good luck finding your own way.
A couple of days after Christmas, I'll upload that pdf file to
sendthisfile.com and share the link. But it will only last three days
there, so be ready to pounce.
