Hi Tor,
Hi Gimp users
I 'm the Foundator and Manager of the GIMPVS
Project hosted on SourceForge at
http://gimp-vs.sf.net
The reason that made me bring GIMPVS
is driven by software quality and
the promotion of excellence :
This is described in the GIMPVS Page Introduction,
and technically explained in :
http://gimp-vs.sourceforge.net/Don_t_mix_microsoft_runtimes_an_introduction.html
The example found there is minimal and I couldn't find simpler,
meanwhile, and as it was mentionned on a "Mozilla Foundation"
development irc channel , is definitively not caricatural.
We plan to get GIMPVS stable enough before the year ends
to let the team members maintain it without a tremendous
and overhelming nightly work .
We use GIMPVS as a sandbox , some engineers told me
it's a playground for me :) for building and releasing softwares:
accordingly we want to maintain a stable
and fully usable release of GIMP using VC ++ Editions
I have been mentionning in GIMPVS forums the need to get
some automated tests where source data will be
compared to verified etalon data results
especillay when plugins are concerned
- to mention it: we corrected this that night:
I sent an email to the pds authors(or maintainers ?) -
the pds plugin declares a 16to8conv
parameter and glib 2.14.4 rejects it : gimp then
crashes not handling a null return value:
I know Tor knows where it happens, anyway here:
_____________________
app\core\gimpparamspecs.c line 116 where
in the above case g_param_spec_internal has rejected the
parameter name (1st letter not being alphabetical)
and returns null :
we added
if(ispec == 0)
return NULL;
since exceptions are not used here.

We don't find bugs in gimp and have a great
respect facing their conceptors and maintainers.
We demonstrate specific and unique savoir faire and
adaptation skills , not unsocial behaviors ...
We don't plan to take over anybody fame and work , and
wouldn' t envision to be the only gimp windows port (an unipolar
world is an apocalyptic vision of our future and I can imagine that as
far as computer machinery is concerned , everybody here
has an example "popping up" :)
A challenging task is the next installer we are developing:
the different compilation "flavors" we provide
require a specific installer and we are working on
this right now..
We made Firefox3 3.0b2 and Seamonkey 2.0a1pre
Communauty Editions builds using VC++ 2008 at:
http://gimp-vs.sourceforge.net/Firefox3_Seamonkey_2.0_Beta2_VC++2008.html
Now , this was quite a long post ,and we are all nearing
end of year festivities , so let's enjoy these and
prepare to enter the 2008 year with our families and friends!
May you all be amazing creators using Gimp .. and GIMPVS!
