I have 'Beginning GIMP' and I agree that it is a great book that
really can help you using the program. Maybe I would like that it
would go more in-depth here and there and I just passed the eyes
through the chapters more related with drawing (I use Gimp only for
photos).

I don't understand what Greg means by "The downside to both these
books is they're based on GIMP 2.4". Maybe he meant 2,2 and not 2.4.
Anyway, as far as I remember, the book was indeed based in the beta
versions of 2.4, which I never used. When I read the book about one
year ago, I was using v.2.2 and the differences between waht was in
the book and what appeared in Gimp didn't imply  any greater
confusion.
