My earlier post was based on ignorance and let's say a bad nights sleep, my apologies:

To get it to worlk on Vista or with any other version of Gimp other than 2.0 (well at least 2.4 that I'm on) put put the files in the plugin folder as instructed, start Gimp, goto Edit|Setup and change the application name to your gimp version, close Gimp and then restart.

  Hi Melisa

I just tried it on my Vista machine and the answer is no - and I think I have a later version than the link I gave but from where I got it I have no idea.

I now what you mean about all the windows. I have writen a couple of simpler image apps and it's actually easier as a developer to have all those floating bits and most programs do it that way.

Thanks for posting the Deweirdifyer link. Just having a background
window behind the others will help me. I find seeing the stuff on my
desktop between all the Gimp windows really distracting. Do you happen
to know if this plugin works with Vista?

that gets rid of some of the weirdnesses and annoyances in the Windows
version of Gimp. Adds a background window that sits under gimp. It
removes the other ten million gimp windows from the task bar and the
ALT-TAB menu and takes control of them itself. You can just alt tab
off gimp and then alt tab back and all your windows appear as they
were before. Only one icon on the taskbar, no more taskbar clutter and
clicking that icon brings up *all* the gimp windows. Basically it
makes GIMP work more like a single windows application than a bunch of
windows. Gimp's modification GimpShop was based on this plugin.
