A film post-production house (which restored the film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and other old films) has contacted me regarding a small project that they are willing to pay for. The task is to write a program (based on GraphicsMagick) which takes four images and pastes them together to form a larger image in the order TL, TR, BL, BR. The attributes from one of the four images needs to be replicated in the output image except for a re-sequencing of the timecode attribute. The file format is SMPTE DPX. The input file sizes are "2K" resolution and the output file size is "4K" resolution. The GM related part is the easy part. The more difficult aspect is that the program needs to be able to handle directories containing thousands of files, start processing at a specified file, and output to a different directory. The initial OS environment is Linux and the implementation language is undefined so it could be C, C++, Ruby, Perl, or Tcl. The customer prefers a portable implementation but would be satisified if it ran only under Unix. Please let me know if this task interests any of you.
