Add '-g -ggdb' to your build options in order to enable debugging and then use GDB to debug the issue. Make sure that you have installed the 'graphicsmagick-dbg' Ubuntu package so that you can see what is going on inside GraphicsMagick. Use ulimit -c unlimited in your shell configuration in order to allow core dump files to be created. Many people find Kdbg ('kdgb' Ubtuntu package) to provide a user-friendly way to do debugging.
