Sometimes when something seems too obvious to be true, then in fact it may actually be that obvious. :-) Always keep in mind that the GraphicsMagick library was derived from ImageMagick which was originally just some command-line utilities (without any library) and the software is evolved over a span of 21 years. Due to the command-line utility heritage, the internals of much of GraphicsMagick is oriented toward satisfying the implementation needs of a command line utility. When in doubt, consult the documentation for the command line utility.
