It is faster to pull from Mercurial at SourceForge since they offer plenty of bandwidth. Then you can get any subsequent fixes in a few seconds. The snapshot tarballs are assured to have passed the test suite ('make distcheck') on at least one system and are also assured to have good timestamps. Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes sense of it. IT sense.
