Under Unix/Linux type systems, passing NULL as the argument should work just fine. The argument is intended to help GM find its own components based on where its executable (or DLL) happens to be installed. There are several different means for GM to find its own components (including the Unix/Linux default of hard-coded paths compiled into the binaries) and the argv[0] approach is the method of last resort.
