It may be that you only need to change your execution search path in order to find 'gm' (probably /usr/bin/gm). You could also choose to rebuild latest GraphicsMagick from source code and re-install into /usr/local (assuring that all needed -dev packages are installed first) and use that in preference to the old version offered by the OS distribution.
