I should mention that GraphicsMagick currently traps the signal caused
by an assertion failure.  This is probably why it didn't dump core.
It was a toss-up as to whether assertion signals should be trapped or
not.  I decided to trap it since not doing so could leave behind big
temporary files and if a server is throwing a lot of assertions, it
could grind to a hault due to a full disk.

Perhaps I could adjust things so that after resources have been
cleaned up, abort is called, but this is a bit tricky.
