ImageMagick, does leave a core behind, which I should mention that GraphicsMagick currently traps the signal caused by an assertion failure. This is probably why it didn't dump core. It was a toss-up as to whether assertion signals should be trapped or not. I decided to trap it since not doing so could leave behind big temporary files and if a server is throwing a lot of assertions, it could grind to a hault due to a full disk. Perhaps I could adjust things so that after resources have been cleaned up, abort is called, but this is a bit tricky.
