I should mention that one place that I downloaded real DPX files from is from NIST's Motion Image Quality Project at "http://www.itl.nist.gov/div895/digitalcinema.html". There is a set of 38 DPX test images available from there. The test images are HDTV 1080P images containing video test patterns. There is a Windows-based viewer for the images as well. The DPX files were written by someone who clearly read the DPX specification, as compared with most of the DPX files I have received thus far, which fail to set unset fields to proper values. The actual files may be downloaded from "http://www.itl.nist.gov/div895/docs/exe/testpatterns.html".
