The latest GM 1.3 development snapshot (1.3.020080701) now supports loading common raw camera photos as if they were native without having the prefix the file name with "dcraw:". This makes it handy for indexing photos. Dcraw is used as before (rather than more sophisticated, less portable, software like UFRaw). I tested it with output from many different camera types and it works great. At the moment 'dcraw' is executed with bare-bones options. The options could be updated to produce linear 16-bit output or use different interpolation options. Advice from experts is appreciated. Many of the formats are variants of TIFF so prefixing the file name with "TIFF:" obtains a thumbnail rather than the full size image.
