The shared libraries should have been installed in /usr/local/lib. 
The Linux OS does not seem to automatically use libraries just because 
they have been installed.  For security and performance reasons it 
maintains a cache of the shared libraries installed in "approved" 
locations.  Nguyen Vu Hung's 'ldconfig' formula is likely to solve the 
problem.  It may also work to reboot the system, although Unix systems 
should never be rebooted for such a minor task.
