That's why I suggested -level; unlike -normalize, it applies the 
same amount of stretch to all three color channels.  Grey pixels
stay gray and colour balance stays ok.

In my previous message I had the order of parameters wrong:
it's

    -level min/gamma/max

e.g., -level 0/1.0/50000
if you've used "identify" to find out that the maximum
value of the red, green, blue channels is 50000, and
you don't want to change the image gamma.
