No, there is not.  It seems like there should be an option to include 
file names and directories which start with a '.'.  Instead such 
files/directories are simply removed from the list.

This display program dates from perhaps 1992 so it is not as fancy as 
modern file browsers.

I am not sure what you mean by this.

Resource limits are currently specified by environment variables 
rather than a configuration file.
