Bob Do you wanna know what the really funny thing is? Last night, I deleted the whole line that I used to call GraphicsMagick, typed it out again and it worked flawlessly. :) I was trying to escape single quotes around the hex values, which turned out wasn't necessary! The presence of unexpected characters was likely throwing off the parser. But I have taken your advice on board and gotten rid of the "-depth 8", so it wasn't all in vain. Thanks very much for your help.
