GM just writes the original values as is.

Yes, because GM originated from IM in late 2002 and so they did the 
same thing at that time. :-)

However, I believe that GM's TXT format has been enhanced somewhat.

The use of a "TXT" extension is obviously a very poor choice of file 
extension given that it can mean entirely different things.
