The latest GM 1.3 development snapshot (1.3.020080925) now has a thread-safe pixel cache with fine-grained locking. This helps multi-thread performance considerably on OSs with "slow" locks like FreeBSD and OS-X. It also improves the performance of algorithms which spend considerable time in the pixel cache code performing such tasks as generating virtual pixels. Image resize is one of the algorithms which benefits, since it now obtains almost linear speedup as processor cores are added.
