Thanks for the generous offer, Steve (and Ron, for your detailed analysis of what I should better not do), I have been in touch with my hosting provider, HostGator. They do not install custom software on shared servers. Their earlier recommendation of a dedicated server seemed over the top (over US$ 2,000 per year, just to run GraphViz!) Customer support now advised me to get their VPS hosting service (US$ 19,95 per month), then use yum to install the software. Steve/Ron: given https://support.hostgator.com/articles/hosting-guide/hardware-software/what-software-and-program-versions-does-hostgator-offer which of the executables would you advise me to install when I want to be able to generate say a gif out of my gv-file that I create with my PHP script/MySQL database? http://graphviz.org/Download_linux_rhel.php Thanks, Aldo PS Perhaps better to take this off-list. I can then always post a summary of our findings later.
