It used to work, since I remember to this day my astonishment several 
years ago when I first saw the output of my program. My respect for 
Graphviz increased yet again.

So it's a regression. The tiny detail John's post reveals may have been 
true at that time - I did not look that closely.

I only keep the latest copy of the code, so I can't go back and re-test 
various versions. I'd be very appreciative if you could do that.
