[11:01] <mathrick> dolphy: gst-player does not work here, either doesn't play file or crashes
[11:01] <mathrick> dolphy: checkout from yesterday's evening
[11:01] <dolphy> mathrick: any clue what's going wrong ?
[11:01] <dolphy> mathrick: some warning, some bt ?
[11:02] <mathrick> dolphy: not really, no warnings, I can try bt
[11:02] <mathrick> dolphy: but it's not maintainer build, so bt will probably be useless
[11:02] <dolphy> mathrick: well i m currently rebuilding HEAD
[11:03] <dolphy> mathrick: so i won't be able to check before some hours..
[11:07] <mathrick> wow, now it suddenly began to spew really interesting warnings
[11:07] <mathrick> ERROR asfdemux(19925) gstasfdemux.c(968):gst_asf_demux_get_stream: <asfdemux0> Segment found for undefined stream: (57)
[11:07] <mathrick> ERROR asfdemux(19925) gstasfdemux.c(968):gst_asf_demux_get_stream: <asfdemux0> Segment found for undefined stream: (34)
[11:07] <mathrick> it's mpge btw ;)
[11:08] <mathrick> s/mpge/mpeg/
[11:10] <mathrick> hmm, looks like gst-launch doesn't work either
[11:11] <thomasvs> try another file ?
[11:12] <mathrick> thomasvs: that was another one ;)
[11:13] <mathrick> mathrick@megumi:~/Downloads/Anime$ gst-typefind-0.7 Tokyo\ Breakfast.mpeg
[11:13] <mathrick> Tokyo Breakfast.mpeg - video/x-ms-asf
[11:15] <mathrick> hmm, other mpegs play fine, at least in gst-launch
[11:15] <dolphy> try an avi
[11:16] <thomasvs> mathrick: an mpeg typefoudn as an asf is probably not an mpeg
[11:17] <mathrick> mathrick@megumi:~/Downloads/Anime$ file Tokyo\ Breakfast.mpeg
[11:17] <mathrick> Tokyo Breakfast.mpeg: Microsoft ASF
[11:17] <mathrick> hmm, probably not :)
[11:22] KoRnouille ([email protected]) left irc: "Leaving"
[11:23] <mathrick> k, for avis encoded in xvid, result is nothing displayed and 100% CPU, while divx works fine in gst-launch
[11:25] <mathrick> btw, real mpegs that play fine with gst-launch, but gst-player prints ** (gst-player:20008): WARNING **: couldn't set the right number of channels, enjoy the speed difference
[11:25] <mathrick> and then I have nice slide-show
[11:25] <dolphy> can you please try to play matrix.avi
[11:25] <mathrick> dolphy: k, but first I need to download it
[11:26] <mathrick> what is URL for test files?
[11:31] <mathrick> thomasvs: is gst-foo-0.7 --help supposed to always be accurate wrt available options? or should I be looking @ sources?

[11:32] <dolphy> mathrick: http://freedesktop.org/~gstreamer/media/large/matrix.avi
[11:36] <thomasvs> mathrick: yeah, of course it should be correct
[11:36] <thomasvs> mathrick: if it's not it's a bug
[11:36] <mathrick> thomasvs: I mean, is it technically possible for --help to be incorrect, it uses popt, right?
[11:37] KoRnouille ([email protected]) joined #gstreamer.
[11:38] <KoRnouille> zeetix ?
[11:38] <KoRnouille> is that his name again ?
[11:38] <KoRnouille> thomasvs ?
[11:38] <KoRnouille> for the video wall stuff
[11:38] <mathrick> KoRnouille: Zeenix
[11:39] markey ([email protected]) left irc: "bbl"
[11:39] <KoRnouille> thomasvs ok
[11:40] <KoRnouille> thomasvs: when did you see him lately ?
[11:41] <mathrick> KoRnouille: IIRC, he was here yesterday
[11:41] <thomasvs> mathrick: it is possible for any --help to be incorrect :)
[11:41] <thomasvs> mathrick: but in general, it should be correct because of using popt
[11:41] <KoRnouille> mathrick: ok, thanks
[11:41] <thomasvs> KoRnouille: yeah, remember he is a pakistani, so he has different hours
[11:41] <mathrick> thomasvs: i thought popt taken care of keeping it up-to-date?
[11:41] <KoRnouille> right...
[11:43] <thomasvs> mathrick: yep
[11:43] <thomasvs> mathrick: but that doesn't mean there can't be mistakes
[11:46] <mathrick> thomasvs: ok, but if they are there, I won't catch them w/o careful code examination anyway
[11:47] <thomasvs> mathrick: I'm really not following - what exactly are you trying to do ?
[11:50] <mathrick> thomasvs: manpages thing, I have finally got to work on them
[11:51] <thomasvs> yep, but WHAT is it that you're trying to do that makes you ask all these questions ?
[11:53] <mathrick> thomasvs: I'm making sure all options listed there are valid, and therefore I need to have authoritative info available ones, that's why I was wondering if --help is (supposed to be) alway correct
[11:53] <mathrick> s/info/info on/
[11:54] <thomasvs> ok, so
[11:54] <thomasvs> a) --help is supposed to be correct, so work from that
[11:54] <thomasvs> b) test each of the options to see if they do what they say they do
[11:54] <mathrick> k
[12:00] <mathrick> dolphy: while playing matrix.avi
[12:00] <mathrick> error while decoding block: 8 x 24 (1)
[12:00] <mathrick> Error at MB: 992
[12:00] <mathrick> concealing errors
[12:00] <mathrick> ignoring overflow at 28 5
[12:00] <mathrick> ac-tex damaged at 15 23
[12:00] <mathrick> dolphy: but otherwise, it plays ok in gst-player
[12:01] ninja ([email protected]) joined #gstreamer.
[12:02] <ninja> I'm building gstreamer from CVS. Why do client applications want to find gstreamer-libs-0.7.pc and where can I get it?
[12:02] thaytan ([email protected]) joined #gstreamer.
[12:03] <jdahlin> ninja, set PKG_CONFIG_PATH to $prefix/lib/pkgconfig or $builddir/pkgconfig for a non-installable build
[12:03] jcsston ([email protected]) left irc: Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)
[12:05] <ninja> but I can't see gstreamer-libs-0.7.pc[.in] anywhere in CVS (or installed on my system)
[12:05] <thaytan> it's in gst-plugins
[12:06] <ninja> ahh, thanks
[12:06] <ninja> is that on gnome or freedesktop?
[12:06] <mathrick> dolphy: hmm, looks like after stopping playback it stalls, eating 100% CPU and spewing
[12:06] <mathrick> (gst-player:20200): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: file gstdata.c: line 188 (gst_data_ref): assertion `GST_DATA_REFCOUNT_VALUE(data) > 0' failed

[12:09] <zaheerm> thomasvs: u there?
[12:10] rk|away ([email protected]) left irc: "leaving"
[12:19] <mathrick> dolphy: also, after seeking it loses sync for good
[12:25] <thomasvs> zaheerm: yep
[12:25] <thomasvs> ninja: same place you got gst
[12:27] <zaheerm> :)
[12:27] <zaheerm> thomasvs: we didnt finish our convo a few days back....
[12:27] <dolphy> mathrick: the errors of decoding are normal
[12:28] <dolphy> mathrick: what do you mean by stopping playback ?
[12:29] <zaheerm> thomasvs: I was saying that I was forced to stop stuff.....but I kept up to date reading the lists etc. I still have software I have written that uses gstreamer every day
[12:29] <zaheerm> thomasvs: and now I am at a stage where I can again help out a bit...with the coding
[12:37] <thomasvs> zaheerm: ah, that would be nice
[12:37] <thomasvs> zaheerm: so what do you do for a job right now ?
[12:38] <zaheerm> i dont
[12:38] <zaheerm> i am doing a phd
[12:39] <zaheerm> hopefully only in the last 6 months or so
[12:39] <zaheerm> its coz of the phd i had to stop everything
[12:39] <zaheerm> university sent me a letter
[12:40] <zaheerm> saying either i stop working
[12:40] <zaheerm> or they will chuck me out
[12:40] <thomasvs> ah, right
[12:40] <thomasvs> heh :)
[12:40] <zaheerm> so after 2 weeks of deliberation
[12:40] <zaheerm> i decided to stay and do my phd
[12:41] <thomasvs> but, that doesn't exactly give you time for gst :)
[12:41] <zaheerm> it does kinda now
[12:41] <zaheerm> coz from the end of this month
[12:41] <zaheerm> my phd wont have much coding
[12:41] <zaheerm> and i cant live without coding...
[12:42] <zaheerm> recently ive been working on adding msn voicechat support to gaim
[12:43] <zaheerm> so yes a few hours a week i can spare
[12:44] <thomasvs> cool :)
[12:44] <thomasvs> well, we need to find you some work then to do :)
[12:44] <zaheerm> haha
[12:44] <zaheerm> i would like to add a macosx audio sink and src
[12:45] <thomasvs> ah, rock
[12:45] <thomasvs> that would be great
[12:45] <zaheerm> and an rtsp plugin (supporting at first mpeg4 audio, and later mpeg4 video and audio)
[12:46] <KoRnouille> sounds good !
[12:46] <KoRnouille> i need that for my projhects ;)
[12:46] <zaheerm> the rtsp plugin, i need for my projects too...have to use mpeg4ip at the moment....which means i cant do half the things i want it to like record to wav and mp3 at same time etc.
[12:47] <KoRnouille> i use mpeg4ip also as testing
[12:47] <KoRnouille> what project are you working on ?
[12:48] <zaheerm> well at the mosque, we broadcast live video and audio streams of the programs
[12:48] <ensonic> I've just updated from cvs and now its missing gstreamer/gst/elements/gstmultidisksource.c - has this been commited?
[12:48] <thomasvs> ensonic: where is it missing ?
[12:48] <KoRnouille> im working on this kind of applications also
[12:49] <KoRnouille> zaheerm: but I'm not a programmer... i don't have programming skillz... so im putting some glue between all the programs I need to have something working...
[12:49] <zaheerm> for audio, we have a c program i wrote that uses icecastsend to a DarwinStreamingServer...but also lets us save to cd quality wav, and mp3 at a higher bitrate...and also allows us to stop and start any of the sub-pipelines
[12:49] <ensonic> when compiling in gstreamer/gst/elements it misses gstmultidisksource.c
[12:49] <zaheerm> uses gst for that
[12:49] <KoRnouille> i mostly work with video
[12:50] <zaheerm> for video
[12:50] <KoRnouille> in fact, i only do video
[12:50] <zaheerm> we use mpeg4ip, and quicktime broadcaster
[12:50] Action: ensonic is rebuiling makefiles
[12:50] <zaheerm> of course, it gives us no flexibility
[12:50] <KoRnouille> i need applications that runs on prompt... i don't use the x interface
[12:50] <KoRnouille> like mplayer
[12:51] <zaheerm> mpeg4ip can be run commandline only
[12:51] <KoRnouille> yeah, you need a config file for the server, right ?
[12:51] <zaheerm> yah, create the config file by using teh gui
[12:51] <KoRnouille> and run it from cmd line
[12:51] <KoRnouille> true
[12:51] <zaheerm> and create the sdp file that u need to put on the server
[12:51] <zaheerm> and then from then on, use the command line
[12:52] <KoRnouille> im not into that for now... i have used an old version of mpeg4ip a few months ago
[12:52] <KoRnouille> i don't know if it changed much
[12:52] <KoRnouille> but it was pretty good
[12:52] <thomasvs> ensonic: if you're running in maintainer mode, it should rebuild makefiles automatically no ?
[12:52] <zaheerm> but wouldnt it be much better if the actual mp4live broadcasting stuff could be done from gstreamer
[12:52] <KoRnouille> i don't use gstreamer yet unfortunatly
[12:53] <KoRnouille> im very interested into that video wall project
[12:53] <KoRnouille> actually, Im just about to buy 4 PCI graphic cards right now
[12:53] <KoRnouille> for testing this
[12:53] <zaheerm> it means, u can use any video input...not just a v4l capturecard
[12:54] <KoRnouille> mp4live ?
[12:54] <zaheerm> KoRnouille: at the mosque we have tested using a projector
[12:54] <KoRnouille> its that a module of mpeg4ip ?
[12:54] <zaheerm> mp4live is the mpeg4ip program that does broadcasting
[12:54] <KoRnouille> right
[12:54] <ensonic> thomasvs: yes, it should
[12:54] <KoRnouille> tested what using a projo ?
[12:55] <KoRnouille> do you have any idea what graphic card to use ?
[12:55] <KoRnouille> GeForce2 MX400
[12:55] <KoRnouille> they are probably pretty much all the same, right ?
[12:57] <thaytan> thomasvs: autopoint fails in gst-plugins tonight
[12:57] <thaytan> complains that ABOUT-NLS and m4/gettext.m4 have been locally modified
[12:59] <ensonic> thomasvs: a friends of mine just tried to build the head cvs on linux (suse 8.2/gcc 3.3) and got warnings in gstcaps.c about comparissions between signed and unsigned, due to -Werror the build stopped ;-)
[13:00] <ensonic> btw: same happens in someone build from cvs and needs to use the c based mutexes, this emits a warning, which stops the build due to -Werror
[13:00] <zaheerm> if u want video, u just need a graphics card capable of Xv...which the majority are capable of
[13:01] <KoRnouille> yeah, but I don't want video freezes... I want a video card that can be able to do marathon display
[13:01] <zaheerm> u wouldnt get video freezes with most cards
[13:02] <zaheerm> its best not to go nvidia, coz their drivers not being open source...means to debug an issue would be difficult
[13:03] <zaheerm> matrox g400s are extremely good for video
[13:03] <thomasvs> thaytan: hm - easiest is to remove the files I think
[13:03] <thomasvs> thaytan: I updated to 0.11.5 of gettext, which is why you get that
[13:03] <zaheerm> i think thomas would agree, having used it in davedina
[13:03] <thaytan> thomasvs: I changed autogen to pass --force instead
[13:04] <thaytan> also, autogen seems to have autopoint running twice, which doesn't seem right
[13:05] <thaytan> (autogen.sh in gst-plugins, that is)
[13:05] <thomasvs> thaytan: where does it run twice ? it does patching, but only runs once, no ?
[13:05] Action: thomasvs checks
[13:05] <thomasvs> woah
[13:05] Action: thomasvs wonders how that happened
[13:06] <KoRnouille> what about ATI ?
[13:06] <KoRnouille> cause I'm looking on a web site.
[13:06] <KoRnouille> most cards are geforce cards
[13:06] <zaheerm> kornouille: i have an ati radeon inside my ibook, seems to be fine...but having not used any others
[13:06] <KoRnouille> and Radeons
[13:06] <zaheerm> cant comment
[13:07] <zaheerm> any other radeon models that is
[13:07] <KoRnouille> because they don't sell matrox there
[13:07] <thomasvs> thaytan: removed
[13:07] <thaytan> my radeon rocks out
[13:07] <KoRnouille> well, I need a PCI
[13:07] <KoRnouille> not AGP$
[13:07] <thomasvs> thaytan: I guess we should prefer to use --force then ?
[13:08] <thaytan> I think so, unless you can think of a reason not to
[13:08] <thomasvs> well, overwriting local mods, but yeah, that's a maintainer issue, or a Thomas issue :)
[13:09] <zaheerm> kornouille: understood..
[13:09] <ensonic> irks, gstreamer/gst/parse is using libxml2 but not adding the required `xml2-config --cflags`
[13:10] <KoRnouille> i think i'll go for a PNY Carte Graphique - GeForce2 MX400 PCI
[13:10] <KoRnouille> 49.90 €
[13:13] <ensonic> same in gstreamer/gst/registries
[13:13] <teuf> ensonic: I'd expect gstreamer to use pkg-config to get libxml2 flags, not xml2-config
[13:15] <ensonic> teuf: thats true, but the point is the two packages do include from libxml2 but not check where it has been installed to
[13:15] <KoRnouille> thomasvs: im realizing that the link you gave me yesterday to get the de video wall stuff it not the technical. I need that link where it show how to setup the servers
[13:17] <KoRnouille> thomasvs: ok I think I have it... it's in the link somewhere
[13:18] <teuf> ensonic: as far as I can tell gstreamer/gst/parse should get the appropriate flags for libxml
[13:19] <thomasvs> ensonic: can you paste the actual output so we really see what's going on ?
[13:21] <teuf> thomasvs: configure.ac defines LIBXML2_REQ for the minimum libxml2 version required, but this variable seems to be overridden in GST_LIBXML2_CHECK, should I file a bug about that ? (maybe I'm just confused about how autofoo works ;)
[13:22] <ensonic> thomasvs: irc runs on one computer the buil on the other, the problem is that gstreamer check for libxml2, but the above two packages do not have the XML_LIBS/CFLAGS, in GST_LIBS/CFLAGS, i'll try to rebuild from start :-(
[13:24] <ensonic> XML_CFLAGS and XML_LIBS are empty

[13:37] <thomasvs> where does it disable registry load/save by default ?
[13:37] <thomasvs> that's a bug

[17:35] <LeRoutier> gst-editor & player autogen.sh do not call autopoint at all. that may be why they lack mkinstalldirs when using automake 1.8.2

[20:39] <thomasvs> lude: how did you install gst on either machines ?
[20:39] <lude> the one machine i keep using is a BSD machine, installed via ports
[20:39] <lude> this one is a gentoo box, i have to manually muck up the paths, but it works with the other registry

[22:38] <ds-work> bitpoet: and change sys/Makefile.am accordingly
[22:38] <dolphy> bitpoet: that would go in gst-plugins/sys then
[22:39] jcsston ([email protected]) joined #gstreamer.
[22:39] <ds-work> bitpoet: however, we're trying to get a handle on the number of directories we are using, so (dolphy approving) you should add the element to sys/ximagesink or so
[22:39] <ds-work> I'd prefer a sys/x11 directory, personally
[22:40] <bitpoet> well, i'll just pick one and see if i can get it working. right now it's just a (very) modified videotestsrc, so either is better than that.
[22:40] <dolphy> we could have a sys/x11 directory with x[v]imagesink x[v]imagesrc
[22:40] <taaz> why not sys/xwindowsystem/ ;)
[22:40] <dolphy> bitpoet: well you probably better base your code on x[v]imagesink example
[22:41] <dolphy> bitpoet: big part would be similar
[22:42] <dolphy> thomasvs: fixed my bug :)
[22:42] <dolphy> thomasvs: no black rectangle anymore
[22:43] <taaz> is there going to be a auto-select warpper for x[v]imagesink sometime? perhaps use xvideosink name?
[22:44] <bitpoet> i already have a prototype working, but i think i can get some useful things out of ximagesink.c
[22:45] <dolphy> taaz: well that's on my todo list :)
[22:48] <thomasvs> dolphy: rock !
[22:49] <thomasvs> dolphy: great news :)
[22:49] <dolphy> thomasvs: yeah sometimes the most simple bugs are the longuest to find
[22:49] <dolphy> thomasvs: but i m learning about gdk :)
[22:56] Action: dolphy is now doing some fixes in gst-player
[22:58] <taaz> if you want to fix the GstPlay python bindings too that would be nice ;)
[22:58] <taaz> they sort of work... but sort of don't
[22:59] <taaz> was getting stuck spitting out same timestamp for an ogg after ~9s. repeatably. so didn't think it was thread releated but could be
[23:00] <taaz> just testing with fakesink audio/viz output. setting viz output to something like ximagesink caused it to go into thread-puke mode
[23:00] <taaz> ah, the joys of threads and bindings

[23:48] <ds-work> ibsteveog: what are you using as a server?

[23:48] <ds-work> what port?
[23:48] <ds-work> default is 5901
[23:48] <ibsteveog> yes, 5901
[23:48] <ibsteveog> its connectiing
[23:49] <ibsteveog> i had to disable the RFB 003.003 assertion
[23:49] <ibsteveog> since my vnc apparently returns RFB 003.007

[23:51] <ibsteveog> ds-work: if you want, i'll send you the last bit of output with --gst-enabled-debug=5
[23:53] <ds-work> ok
[23:53] <ds-work> attach it to a bug, please

[00:00] <ibsteveog> wait, it just occurred to me - the vncserver has to ask for a password
[00:00] <ibsteveog> no doubt thats why rfbsrc is hanging on a read...
