A meant a "cleaner" reference implementation, Java based or whatever. About hdot264 in general I don't see a problem. People will help, hdot264 will work! H.264 is definitely superior to MPEG-4. I'm sure it'll have great success, and even more if an open source project is there to support its free usage.
