Apparently you thought wrong!  :-)  Sorry, I have no idea where "the  
ImageMagick binary" installs its packages, if indeed it does.   
Personally, I use Fink for OS X to do this kind of thing.  So our  
setups are quite different.
I think you need to provide lots more detail, like exactly what you  
downloaded, exactly what you installed and how, etc.
