I've just managed to test my issue on a Windows XP machine. The problem here seems worse. Running the same command but using the letter 'A' instead of '+' renders a completely black image. Further testing proves that more symbols render out a black image. If I change the output format to PNG, the result is correct. I hope this helps.Thanks.
