Xpdf instead of Ghostscript

I've run into a problem lately with Ghostscript. It cannot render some
pdfs correctly whereas Xpdf does. Xpdf has a function called pdftoppm
which will allow it to raster correctly to a ppm file. I'd like to know if
anybody else has looked at replacing the Ghostscript part of ImageMagick
with something like Xpdf. I know I could chain things together on the
command line, but I'd like to use the Java interfaces to ImageMagick so
that's why I'd like to open PDFs with Xpdf within ImageMagick.

Thanks for any advice,
David
