If this is the conclusion, so why distributing a Windows version of IM at all? I think that a GUI interface can really help people to become aquainted with a command line program. A good example is AVIsynth, a (Windows-based) command-driven video manipulation program, which has a GUI editor named AVSedit. This editor easifies the handling a lot and helps people to get started. It could give us an idea what a GUI editor for IM should look like. A possible idea would be to provide such an editor as an IrfanView (a free Windows image viewer) plug-in.
