Threading and performer questions

I've been studying the Open Inventor source and had a
question:  can anyone outline what areas to
investigate / change to make Inventor thread safe =96 I
am trying to get my mind wrapped around all the
issues.

Also, I=92ve used Performer before and was wondering if
there is any documentation or whitepaper that
describes differences in data structure / internals
between Inventor and Performer.
