extract "dvgrab -a" data without writing new DV stream?

hi all,

I'm just starting to use dvgrab & kino; please forgive me if this is a 
silly question...

Is there any way to produce a list of "scenes" from a DV stream, without 
actually writing any new DV data?

i.e. I'm looking for something like dvgrab's autosplit mode, but I just 
want the split timecodes and recording dates, not also a set of files.

I tried dvgrab -a with stdout, but that didn't produce any split data 
(which it does with file output).

To put it another way: is there a utility that will read a DV stream, 
and report these events:

o new recording flag

o timecode discontinuity

and give me the timecode (and recording date) data where these events 
occur, but all this without *writing* any DV data?


So far, I've been doing this with:

	cat *.dv | dvgrab -a -stdin -timecode

and then deleting all the files it creates. But it's a little untidy, 
and it also doesn't give me the "recording date" for the first frame in 
each "split", which I then have to extract with dv2sub.

It would also presumably be a bit quicker if it didn't try to write the 
output, too...
