Capturing Video from Firewire to process

So I'm working on a project where I need to capture video as its 
recording from miniDV camcorder. And I need to do this for two 
cameras... It seems that Kino does this, but I need to use it for my own 
project... Anyway to do this with libdc1394 and libraw1394?
