Dvgrab piping?

So guys, I'm wondering when I pipe my dvgrab output what kind of 
data/output would I get.

I'm trying to write a program that I can pipe my dvgrab to, so that my 
program can take the output of dvgrab, and give my teammates program 
module data as a frame by frame sort of output.

I tried to

dvgrab -  >> text.txt

to see if I can look at the data it outputs but my gedit wont open it 
cuz of encoding.
