Are you using Export > MPEG or Export > Other > DVD (FFmpeg)?

Historically, mpeg2enc as used by Export > MPEG, has produced more
reliable playback than FFmpeg, but I do not know if that is still the
case. A semi-pro I know who was using Kino to make DVDs used the
Export > Other route for the following reason. Another thing people
have reported is more reliable playback with AC-3 rather than MPEG-1
Layer II (MP2) audio. By default, Export > MPEG uses MP2 and Export >

command line options is compatible with your Kino version, then you
can enter "ffmpeg" into the Audio Encoding field of the Advanced
section of the Export > MPEG window and it will produce with AC-3
audio:

Regardless of your open source authoring frontend on Linux - Kino,
Varsha, or Qdvdauthor - they all use dvdauthor under the covers, which
has been fairly reliable, but probably not as good as commercial
solutions.
