Re: Lost frames, or what else?

Hi Andrea,

I've had chunks of dropped frames when capturing DV, and I don't use a
Canopus. I noted this on the Kino pages but haven't had any response. But
since I had to get the video done for a client, as soon as possible, I just
ignored the dropped frames, and hoped they wouldn't notice the jumps.

What was interesting was that even when I quickly reproduced the capture,
the frame drops happened in the same place. So I was capturing to another
file at another time. I'm not an expert, but this may indicate to me
something other than the hard drive (?).

I never heard back from the client about the jumpiness, so I let it go (but
remained concerned about the next 5 hours of footage I capture for them).

My hardware is a Toshiba Sat. A100 with 2GB and lots of free space. It runs
Linux Mint Helena. I capture using firewire.
Agreed this is not the best (and may be the worst) platform to edit and
render movies professionally ... but I'm not General Motors, so I'm stuck
with this.
