Play Speed is like Fast Forward

I just installed kino on a new disk that has a fresh install of Gentoo
Linux.  I've used kino before on my old system and it worked fine.  Now
when I press play, the video plays as if I pressed fast forward.  Does
something have to be configured to get play at the right speed?
