Hi Vedran!
There is a good chance to see some sort of pixel errors, but you should
also see some other strange issues with that machine. A machine running
out of specs will have non-predictable and very random errors. Starting
from not being able to boot correctly, failing to find components, up to
crashes and burnout of components.
If you are only seeing pixel errors, but memory and compilation tests
work fine, I would point towards the graphics hardware and/or driver.
There is a chance of a defective ram part on the graphics board, as well
as a faulty kernel/X11 driver. Or maybe only the graphics board is
overheating. It is pretty hard to find out the exact 'cause, but as a
start installing new drivers might help.
I have seen strange driver related issues with some of the older 48xx
nvidia drivers and Quadro FX2000 boards, but these are resolved since
the 5xxx series. I even had one FX2000 that would not recognize the
extra power comming into it's extra power connector and the driver was
claiming everthing was fine, but it was running at only 20% of it's
usual performance...
I would definatly check out which graphic boards are supported by these
distributions. Sometimes these distributions and the applications that
come with it aim at certain features that need to be supported by your
hardware...
Cheers,
Frank....
