There are tools like the As a Kino developer, thanks for the plug, Brett, but it is only really appropriate if you have DV as the source. One probably does not want to manually transcode to DV in order to export to another. Also, he would need to manually add command line switches to export I-picture only MPEG, which is what I believe he specifically requested. I recommend he try AviDemux: http://www.avidemux.org/ It is similar to VirtualDub, which he probably used on Windows, and it is popular enough it might be in his distro already. One word of caution on Linux distros. Most of them are crippled in MPEG encoding support due to the need to license patents. You then have to go out of your way to seek out the appropriate unofficial package repository to add the capability.
