VISUAL DEVELOPMENT ARTIST Description : Responsible for generating ideas and concept drawings for environments. Turning conceptual drawings into working drawings and seeing them through 3D modeling. Responsibilities : Work with the Director, Art Director and Production Designer to design environments in the film based on story and script. Work with Layout and Modeling to take these ideas from 2D to 3D. Qualifications : -Great design and drawing skills. -Experience in Illustration, Animation Layout or Visual Development. -Strong well-rounded portfolio. -Ability to take direction and work well with a team. The Storyboard artist's role is to translate scripts from print to visual medium that simply and briefly illustrates the film's key scenes and events, establishes the mood, characters plot, the setting and anything else will help the audience understand the story. Invents and stages action. Responsibilities : Analyze the story/ script Interpreting script pages and sequences into visual presentations. Developing characters and dramatic action scene by scene. Suggesting shooting angles and transitions. Incorporating Director's notes. Working quickly to translate story ideas into visual sequences. Work closely with Art Director, Head of story and Pre-Production Supervisor to choose the shots and define action. Create Storyboards for the scenes assigned. Qualifications : Strong drawing skills that suggest character and action Understanding of cinematic scene and dramatic structure Understanding of character development Ability to work collaboratively. Minimum 3 years feature film or television experiences and demonstrated success in like position. Ability to analyze scenes in written form and translate into visual product. Ability to express story and character through drawings-to draw characters that are model and express emotion. Ability to invent action and express it through drawing. Development tasks range from exploring unique key-framed, procedural and dynamic animation techniques to shader writing, compositing and general tool/scripting work. FX TDs are also responsible for per-shot effects. Often these are completed using our well developed set of tools and techniques; sometimes they require more original solutions. Whatever the case the FX TD works from set-up to final on animation and shading of each per-shot effect. Rough composites may also be required. Approved effects are then handed to a Lighting TD for final lighting and compositing. Responsibilities : -Design and implement procedural, shader based and dynamic animation under the direction of the effects lead. -Development of tools and techniques for efficient production of effects -Test and debug new techniques and tools for future projects Qualifications : -Expertise in one or more: Procedural animation, particle effects, surface shader development -Developed sense of basic animation principles, primarily timing and weight -Familiarity with one or more major animation package (Softimage, Maya, Houdini, Realflow, etc) -Familiarity with basic programming concepts and practices (C, C++, C-Shell, Perl, .rib, MEL/Expressions or similar) -Familiarity with *nix operating systems -Experience working in a production environment and/or achieving aesthetic goals on schedule Junior FX Technical Director positions are also available. He is responsible for manipulation of digital images using paint and compositing software. He works closely with the Lighting Supervisor in an interactive fashion. Responsibilities : • Work with Lighting Supervisor to determine best approach to effects. • Take images from Final Render to completion employing techniques including but not limited to 2D effects, compositing, stabilization, tracking, and pulling mattes. • Work within a team to design and implement 2D & 21/2D paint effects. Qualifications : • Proficiency with the following programs: Discreet* Flame, Inferno, or Combustion and Apple* Shake • 2+ years feature film or commercial visual effects experience. • Demonstrated competence with fine arts sketching and/or painting. • Must have Art School/ Fine Arts background. • UNIX experience.
