Indeed - although some people want to work with 4K video, it seems there are very few 4K displays available (at least models a user could be reasonably expected to have available). So it makes sense to preview at a lower resolution that your source material has. Having said that, one of the reasons why our distribution is native 64-bit is that we want to be able to make use of really large amounts of RAM when available. > The timeline arrangement is stored as a fairly simple XML Dump, and > the only thing that needs to be implemented is a rendering backend > that does all the dirty work. Sounds like a cluster of headless nodes might be of use here. > Software patents are a minefield, no matter what you do, there will > propable always be someone who could sue you for something. Yep, that's our plan. > I > believe that with a little hacking cinelerra could be packaged to fit > your needs. The problems we have with cinelerra are largely due to the lone-developer organisational model of the original project. We have talked to the team behind the cinelerra-cvs fork about an alternative build that would strip out all the obviously patent-encumbered parts. However there are still concerns about the stability and maintainability of the application. > If you have some suggestions about how the Open Movie Editor > Project could provide some value for your project, feel free to > contact me. :) Thanks! The thing that really caught my eye about the OME project was the preliminary support for JACK. My suggestion would be that you consider integrating OME with Ardour to create a seamless video/audio workstation. Some work has already been done on video and animation track support for Ardour, so that video frames can appear on the Ardour timeline. We've already opened a ticket to package OME for 64 Studio, so I hope we can provide some feedback from our alpha/beta testers. Cheers!
