Gentoo.

I used RH, Fedora, Debian and arrived at Gentoo. Here's a good article

It's perfect for an VFX environment where you have to meet the 
dependencies of multiple binary-only apps exactly as well as a plethora 
of OSS tools and home brewed stuff that has the most exotic dependencies 
ever.

The main issue are binary packages. Frankly spoken, RPMs are the biggest 
crap I've ever came across.

My advice is to stay away from RPM or binary package based distros when 
it comes to Linux
If all you're doing is sending mail, editing spread sheets and writing 
letters -- fair enough -- an RPM based distro is just as good as any other.

But for a scenario as in a VFX facility, you will end up in RPM hell

pretty quickly.
