being down under currently, I can probably just state some of the rumors 
we hear about HF (so all of the following might be completely off):

PRMan is used to do (most of) the rendering
The Artist workstations run XSI on Windows for Animation and Maya for 
Lighting etc., only the farm runs Linux (ouch!)
Animation mesh data is brought into Maya from XSI for lighting, shading 
etc.

Im was asked for a LiquidMaya Windows build by one of the TDs working on 
HP in February 2005, so maybe MayaMan doesn't do exactly all they need 
on that show... :)
