I'd also recommend KSysGuard (since "K menus" were mentioned, I assume KDE 
is the active desktop environment).  The default settings display a list of 
running processes, similar to "top", but it also supports a wide range of 
graphing, metering, and logging-to-disk.  On my Gentoo machine, it's in the 
K menu under "System" - but you could, of course, also run "ksysguard" from 
a console.
