Please see below for more information and how to apply. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------- Walt Disney Animation Studios CG Software Tools Manager The CG Software Tools Manager works closely with Artists and Technical Directors to research, design, and develop in-house software tools to solve production issues and make productions more efficient. This is a technical manager position requiring both software development project leadership experience and the proven ability to hire, train, and support developers of all experience levels. Candidates should have 7 plus years of software development experience, including 2 plus years in leadership roles. The general responsibilities of this position are: - Overall technical vision, roadmap & direction for team of 15 to 20 - Overall resource allocation for 10 to 15 simultaneous and ongoing projects/products - Effectively manage and balance 50/50 spit of maintenance and new feature development as per Studio priorities - Continue to build an effective development organization by mentoring and leadership as well as hire/fire/review responsibility - Career development of each member of the team including meeting regularly with employees - Conducting performance reviews of team members - Responsible for creating group budgets and financial tracking of projects - Works closely with other Technology Managers to ensure efficient communication of team objectives - Work closely with Production Managers to ensure high level objectives are clearly understood and communicated - Ensuring excellence in group is acknowledged and rewarded This role also requires an overall understanding of the tools and workflows used to create digitally animated feature films. A successful candidate will have experience with development that used most, if not all of the following: Unix/Linux C++, Python Maya, Mel Renderman DSO's Renderman Shader language Object Oriented Design Candidates should have a Bachelor's in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other related field; Master's preferred. The Systems Engineer will work with Production and Technology on profiling of the production pipeline and performance tuning and as it relates to Data Services. This will include analysis of existing backup/restore, disaster recovery and archiving systems and identifying opportunities for process improvement. The Systems Engineer will also work with production, systems and outside vendors to design and implement a centralized image archive library based on Disney Animation requirements and best practices. Duties: *Design, implementation and troubleshooting of systems applications and core infrastructure solutions *Develops new specifications and strategies as needed to support a rapidly changing environment. *Works with technical managers & leads and production leads and oversees teams that implement solutions. *Sustains an overview of long-term requirements and maintains the long-term vision for systems and services that they have designed and supported. *Constantly monitors and adjusts strategy to take advantage of advancements in the industry. *Supports and helps to train personnel in new technological advancements. *Maintains/ensures system redundancy and reliability. *Act as Tier III support for all issues in their related fields. *Provides detailed technical specifications, timelines with deliverables and regular status reports to Manager & VP Systems. Responsibilities: *Programming tools for core services in C++, perl and python *UNIX Server design and administration including IMAP, LDAP, Sendmail, DNS, NIS, Samba, Syslog, CUPS, etc. *Design, administration and tuning of a high-performance Linux computing environment. *System automation through the use of scripting.
